Currently I have a GeForce FX 5200 with 128 MB memory, 8X AGP, with S-Video and DVI out that came with my system. Will I be able to upgrade to another GeForce video card without any problems?

As long as it’s AGP.

I need to up date my graphics card and I need to know who makes the best cards for a good price.

Sorry Sasho — not correct. Matrox is outdated and their top tier cards are only good for some workstations. Look to any nVIDA based 7900-7900-8800 class card forthe best, or an ATI based card X1900. ATI has the best IQ (image quality) in my opinion, save the newest $650.00 behemouth nVIDA based 8800GTX — but the 8800 is DX10 based and XP won’t be able to see any DX10 benefits (only Vista will use DX10). So right now I would say a Sapphire X1900XTX or eVGA 7950GTX would be the best right now unless you can afford the 8800GTX and will use Vista very soon.

I have a HP Pavilion 7935. It does not have an AGP slot. I would like to upgrade to a 128 MB PCI graphics card, but am not sure how to guarantee compatibility with my computer.

The motherboard is an ASUS A7V-VM

Here is a link to a PCI graphics card available at Radio Shack –

PCI graphics cards generally do not have any compatibility issues, unfortunately they are way outdated because PCI graphics use the slowest bus for graphics performance.

My computer was wiped clean, and most documents were kept. My computer won’t play sound, or pc games like Sims, though. It says it coudn’t find a compatible audio or Graphics (DirectX) card. The Windows XP recovery disc was used, but the cards just won’t work. ?
Where can i get the drivers from?
CD or Internet?

If it’s the same graphics and sound cards that were in the computer when you bought it, you should have a driver CD.

If you can’t find the CD, download Belarc Advisor and run it. This will give you a comprehensive breakdown of the hardware and software that makes up your computer.

You’ll then need to go online to download the drivers for both your sound card and your video card. (Simply type the name of your sound card/video card into a search engine, followed by driver download. i.e., ‘Nvidia driver download’ (without the inverted commas)).

Best of luck.

If you have any problems, send me an email and I’ll see if I can help from my end. (Click on my photograph/avatar and send email.)

With a new graphics card comes another upgrade video! If you’ve seen my most recent unboxing video then you already know that I purchased the ATI Radeon HD 3870 for my Mac Pro. Since my NVIDIA 7300 GT crapped out on me, for the second time in just a few months, I decided to go for a whole new card.

So sit back, relax and enjoy the upgrade process. Thanks for watching!

I have two video cards. One is a 256 MB Nvidia video card, the other is a 64 MB video card. The computer is ONLY using the 256 MB video card. I want it to use them both so the video memory will add up to 320 MB. How would I do this?

You don’t. It doesn’t work that way.
